New Year, New Goals: How to live Healthy in 2021

If you're looking for some health inspiration to kick off the year, we've compiled our top 10 health goals you can try out.

New Year

Happy New Year and welcome to 2021! This is the year to make your health a priority and create a positive change in your daily routine. If you’re looking for some health inspiration to kick off the year, we’ve compiled our top 10 health goals you can try out.

1. Get moving

Especially in the colder months, there’s a good chance you’re not moving around as much as your body would like. Take 10-20 minutes out of your day to include some sort of physical activity to get your blood flowing and increase your heart rate.

2. Visit the doctor’s office

Don’t forget about those regular examinations and screenings! This is the best way to spot issues before they become something more serious.

3. Limit your screen time

We all rely on technology for entertainment, and there’s nothing more appealing in the winter than bundling up and watching movies all day. This year, try to spend less time behind a screen and more time doing other activities that challenge your brain, like crosswords, Sudoku and other puzzles.

4. Get more quality sleep

How much sleep are you getting each night, and is the sleep you are getting of high quality? Along with insomnia comes other nighttime issues such as sleep apnea. If you notice symptoms that may point towards either of these issues, be sure to contact your doctor so you can be properly treated. Sleep apnea patients are often prescribed CPAP treatment which can greatly improve their quality of sleep.

5. Eat less processed food and more whole foods

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million times! Your body needs fuel, but what you’re fueling yourself with is of great importance. In 2021, try to limit the processed foods and swap them out for whole foods, like vegetables, fruits, nuts, whole grains and more.

6. Allow yourself more “me time”

Don’t forget to make time for yourself! Self-care is important for both your physical and mental health, so give yourself time each day to unwind and do something you love.

7. Create a safer living environment

How safe are the areas of your house, especially the high fall-risk areas like the bathroom? Make these environments safer for you and your loved ones by installing bathroom safety products like grab bars.

8. Enjoy the outdoors more often

While it’s still wintertime, nothing compares to the feeling of being outside in the fresh air. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, simply crack a window or two to get some fresh air inside for a few minutes.

9. Drink less sweetened beverages

Whether your weakness is soda, juice or sugary coffee, sweetened beverages can be harmful to your body as they are linked to an increased risk of obesity, heart disease and other issues. Gradually decrease your intake this year!

10. Make time for socializing

COVID-19 may make this goal a bit more difficult, but social interaction is important. If you can’t visit with family and friends in person, make time for video chatting or phone calls to remain social.

2020 has been quite the unexpected journey, so let’s make 2021 the best year yet! Make sure to check out our online catalog to find the respiratory and sleep products we offer and contact us with any questions.
