Full Sleep Studies

What is a Full Sleep Study?

A full sleep study, also known as a Polysomnography (PSG) or a Level 1 Sleep Study, are laboratory-based sleep studies that are used when a physician requires them to be done with a referral. Once you have a referral, you will set up a consultation to be analyzed and prepped for your sleep study. This type of study will include multiple sensors to be put on your body to assess for various monitoring and measurements. An overnight sleep study would include evaluation of your sleep staging, air flow, oxygen saturation, electrocardiogram, body position, lead movements and EEG.

Sleep disorders can be very complex and therefore sometimes a portable sleep monitor cannot verify or diagnose snoring conditions and sleep disorders. If your physician suspects that you may have sleep apnea that is of a severe nature or another sleep disorder, they may refer you to an overnight sleep study in a laboratory-based setting.

You Might Need A Sleep Study if you have:

  • Sleep apnea or another related disorder
  • Narcolepsy
  • REM sleep behavioral disorder
  • Unusual sleep behaviors
  • Periodic limb movement disorder
  • Unexplained chronic insomnia

If you have questions about your sleep be sure to reach out to your doctor to get your referral so you can get back to getting a good night's rest again.
