Level I Sleep Testing (Polysomnography)

We provide a comprehensive approach to Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). Our board certified sleep physicians and respiratory therapists work towards diagnosis, education, and lifestyle so that you can have effective treatment.

The first step is to do a sleep apnea test. Your doctor may refer you for either a portable sleep test (Level III) that can be done while you sleep at home, or a more detailed sleep test that is done while you sleep overnight in a laboratory (Level I).

Sleep disorders can be very complex and sometimes a portable sleep monitor cannot verify or diagnose snoring conditions and sleep disorders. If your physician suspects that you may have sleep apnea that is of a severe nature or another sleep disorder, they may refer you to an overnight sleep study in a laboratory-based setting. A laboratory-based sleep study is also called polysomnography (PSG) or a Level 1 sleep study. We require a physician referral in order to set up a consultation with our sleep specialists for you to get referred for a laboratory-based study. This testing requires multiple sensors placed on your body that assess various measurements. An overnight laboratory-based sleep study would include evaluation of your sleep staging, air flow, oxygen saturation, electrocardiogram, body position, lead movements, and EEG.
