Lung Disease

Lung disease is a very serious topic, and it affects many individuals in their day-to-day life. Over 34 million Americans are living with lung disease today. In this blog, we will share with you the most common lung diseases in males and what you can do to help prevent lung disease.

Common Lung Diseases

  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Asthma
  • Cystic Fibrosis (CF)
  • Pulmonary Hypertension
  • Lung Infection
  • Lung Cancer

Early Signs and Symptoms in Males

  • Persistent cough that lasts longer than a few weeks
  • Coughing up blood
  • Wheezing
  • Chest pain
  • Pain with breathing or coughing
  • Shortness of breath

Prevention Steps

There are many preventative steps that males can take to prevent lung disease. One way to reduce the risk of developing lung disease is to quit smoking. Cigarette smoke can make breathing more difficult, leading to lung damage and lung cancer. You should also try to avoid exposure to air pollutants like chemicals, mold, and radon. Outdoor air pollution can be very harmful to the lungs, so it is important to avoid exercising outside on bad air days and try to avoid burning wood or trash. When trying to increase lung function, it is important to exercise regularly to strengthen your lungs.

To protect yourself from lung disease, it is important to understand the signs and symptoms, as well as take preventative measures to help keep your lungs healthy for as long as possible. Advanced Respiratory Care Network offers respiratory consultations along with pulmonary function testing and allergy testing.
