Allergy Testing

We offer allergy testing at our Edmonton South and Calgary South East locations. Allergy testing is used to find out which substances cause a person to have an allergic reaction. Typically various allergenic substances are placed onto the skin, usually on the forearm or back and sectioned off to see which one(s) react.

Who Needs a Test?

Often times, you are referred to us to get tested if:

  • You experience symptoms several months out of the year
  • Your allergies interfere with your daily activities
  • You struggle to catch your breath or breathe easily
  • You wheeze or cough, especially at night and after exercising
  • You are frequently short of breath
  • Your allergies cause infections, nasal congestion or difficulty breathing

Preparing for the Test

Since some allergy medicines can change the results of skin tests, your doctor will tell you which medicines to avoid or to stop taking before your test. If you have questions prior to coming in to your test, be sure to give us a call.

After the Test

Once your are tested, you will know what to avoid, and how to treat your allergies properly. However, controlling your allergies isn't always easy and requires patience, education, and planning.
