Level 1 Sleep Studies (Full Sleep Studies)
Diagnosing sleep disorders can be complex, especially when diagnosing sleep apnea. While portable sleep monitors can be valuable in diagnosing a variety of sleep disorders, sometimes a more thorough analysis is necessary. In these cases, your physician may refer you to have an overnight sleep study performed in a laboratory-based setting.
What Is Involved in a Level 1 Sleep Study
If your physician believes your sleep disorder can be diagnosed with a laboratory-based, they will refer you for a Polysomnography (PSG), which is also referred to as a Level 1 Sleep Study. These studies use multiple sensors to gather data as you sleep about the quality of your sleep and how you breathe as you sleep. Level 1 Sleep Studies include evaluation of:
- Sleep Staging
- Air Flow
- Oxygen Saturation
- Body Position
- Lead Movements
